Protection of personal data

On 25.5.2018, the new General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council, also known as GDPR, entered in force, strengthening the protection of personal data throughout the European Union. Alpha Bank, with respect for your personal data, implements the new Regulation on their processing and informs you in detail accordingly.

You can trust us

Alpha Bank collects your personal data in order to better serve you, as well as in order to inform you about new products and services that meet your needs.We manage these data with the utmost responsibility and we do not transfer them to or share them with third parties without your permission.

We collect and process data that help us communicate with you, understand your needs and provide you with a personalised service.

Regarding all our Customers:

  • Personal and demographic information about you, such as name and surname, father’s name, gender, ID number, Tax Registration Number (AFM), date and place of birth, nationality.
  • Contact details such as postal address, e-mail, fixed and mobile phone.

Additionally, depending on the type of the products and services offered or supplied, we collect the following data, as applicable in each case:

  • Details of your financial, property and family status, such as occupation, earnings, tax statement clearance or other other tax-related or income-related details (e.g. tax forms E1 and E9), dependent members.
  • Data arising from any failure on your part to meet your financial obligations, such as bad cheques, outstanding debts on loans and credit cards, orders for payment procedure, foreclosures and checks payable, applications and decisions for resolution and bankruptcy.
  • Data regarding your creditworthiness, such as debts on loans and credit cards.
  • Credit profiling and credit scoring data.
  • Data regarding your transaction behaviour (marketing profiling data).
  • Data arising from your use of Alpha Bank products and from the contracts that you have signed for those products.
  • Data about your knowledge and experience in the field of investment or insurance, your financial situation, your level of risk tolerance and your investment goals.
  • Data from payments that you make and from related services.
  • Identity details and marketing profiling data from devices or applications that you use, such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or location identifiers and internet browsing data (cookies), which alone or in combination with unique identifiers may be used for Customer identification and the creation of a Customer profile.
  • In exceptional cases, health data about you and/or dependent members of your family.
  • Details of your telephone conversations with our Call Centre, which are recorded in accordance with the requirements of the legal framework.

We inform you about issues of interest to you

We collect your data from various sources with your consent and always in accordance with the legislative framework in force. In summary, such data may originate from information that you choose to share with us, from contracts for Alpha Bank products and from the use of such products, as well as from public sources, with your consent or pursuant to the legal framework.

  • Personal/demographic data and contact details originate from information that you choose to share with us and/or from publicly accessible sources.
  • Financial, property and family status data originate from information that you choose to share with us and/or from other accessible sources, such as land registries, cadastral offices and the Mortgages and Prenotations of Mortgages (MPS) System of TIRESIAS S.A.
  • Data on any failure on your part to meet your financial obligations, and credit profiling and credit scoring data, originate from the files (Systems) of TIRESIAS S.A., as well as from Collections Agencies of Law 3758/2009 collaborating with the Bank, and from law firms, lawyers and credit servicing firms (companies managing claims from Non-Performing Loans) of Law 4354/2015, for related cases assigned to them by the Bank.
  • Market profiling data and data arising from the use of Alpha Bank products and from the contracts for such products, originate from the Credit Consolidation System (CCS) of TIRESIAS S.A.
  • Data on your investor profile originate from information that you choose to share with us.
  • Data on payments originate from information that you choose to share with us or from payment service providers, after obtaining your permission.
  • Identity, marketing profiling data or positioning data or cookies, originate from devices/applications that you use and/or from publicly accessible sources, including social media and service providers collaborating with the Bank (e.g Google).
  • Data from payments that you make and from related services.
  • Identity details and marketing profiling data from devices or applications that you use, such as Internet Protocol (IP) addresses or location identifiers and internet browsing data (cookies), which alone or in combination with unique identifiers may be used for Customer identification and the creation of a Customer profile.
  • Health data originate from information which you have provided to us on your own initiative.
  • Data from telephone conversations with us originates from the recordings of such conversations, of which recordings you are fully aware and which are made in accordance with the requirements of the relevant legislative framework.

We manage your data responsibly

We process the data that we collect for the purpose of fulfilling our obligations to our Customers and under the legal framework in force. Additionally, for communicating directly with you about the products that you already have or about new products that may be of interest to you, for providing you with better services and for tailoring the communication messages that you receive to your needs and preferences.

Processing of the data at our disposal takes place for the following purposes:

  • For identifying you and communicating with you in line with our obligations to you in connection with any products of the Bank which you already have or for which you have applied.
  • In the event that you have applied for a loan or other credit product, for:
    • assessing the credit that the Bank is either expected to undertake or has already undertaken;
    • monitoring the implementation of the relevant contract and the repayment of the debt;
    • preventing or limiting the likelihood of default;
    • seeking collection of any debts;
    • managing claims arising from sponsorship agreements.
  • For drawing up and executing contracts with you and, in general, for ensuring our smooth operation and the fulfilment of our obligations to you.
  • For properly assessing your requests to the Bank (such as, for example, for the settlement debts).
  • For preventing and suppressing money laundering and terrorist financing and preventing fraud against the Bank or its Customers, as well as any other unlawful act.
  • For ensuring our compliance with the obligations imposed by the applicable legal and regulatory framework and the supervisory requirements, as well as with the decisions of the courts or other authorities.
  • For defending the rights and the legitimate interests of the Bank and for protecting the members of the public entering into transactions with the Bank, by –among others– ensuring the implementation of security procedures, preventing crime, identifying and gathering evidence of unlawful conduct (incidents of fraud etc.).
  • For providing you with information about how to make the best use of our products or services and about their capabilities and features, as well as for understanding the level of your satisfaction with our services and with the customer service provided to you. In addition, for understanding your wishes and needs in related to serving the Bank's legitimate interests.
  • For promoting new products and services of the Bank and/or associated companies to existing and potential Customers, after obtaining their explicit consent.
